Batman
A duck in a caped-crusader cowl and cape, with a small bat emblem on its chest, a real Lilalu bath toy sold directly on Amazon.
The Full Story
Batman has been sitting in the "almost approved" pile longer than almost anything else in company history, not because anyone disliked it, but because licensing conversations for anything with a bat emblem tend to move at their own, extremely deliberate pace. Design finished the sculpt in a single week. Paperwork took considerably longer.
The cowl went through more revisions than the cape, mostly over ear shape, apparently a surprisingly contentious detail. One early version was rejected for looking, in the words of one reviewer, "more suspicious raccoon than caped crusader." The current version split the difference and, by most accounts, nailed it.
The paperwork finally cleared, well after the sculpt was done and long after most of the office had stopped asking about it out loud. Nobody's quite sure which specific approval was the holdup, only that it wasn't the ears after all.
Customer Reviews
Had this on a wishlist for what felt like forever before it actually showed up as buyable. Cowl detail is sharp, cape has a nice bit of weight to it for a rubber duck.
I have four of these novelty ducks now and this is the one guests actually pick up and ask about. The ear shape really does make it.
The cape is a separate soft piece and doesn't hold a pose, just kind of drapes. Looks fine sitting down, less dramatic than the product photo standing up.
Standard duck size once it arrived, I'd pictured it a bit bigger given how much detail is packed in. Still a solid little piece.
Was going to give this to my nephew and then just didn't. He got a different duck instead. No regrets.
Nice sculpt overall but the little emblem sticker on the chest started lifting at one edge after a couple weeks on a sunny shelf. Wish it were painted on instead.
