The Cowgirl
A rubber duck dressed as a cowgirl, with a wide-brim hat, heart-shaped sunglasses, a bandana, and a gold chain, a real product sold directly on Amazon.
The Full Story
The Cowgirl came out of a Bushface Ducks pop-up booth at a regional fair in 2013, where the team quickly discovered that the pirate and rock star designs were doing fine, but nothing in the lineup appealed to the specific, very vocal contingent of fairgoers in pink hats. A design intern sketched something on a napkin between shifts, mostly as a joke, and it ended up taped to the booth's cash box for the rest of the weekend.
Every element earned its place through committee disagreement. The heart-shaped sunglasses nearly got cut twice, on the grounds of being "too much," and were saved both times by the same employee, who eventually got a small engraved plaque that just says "the sunglasses stay." The gold chain was a late addition, borrowed in spirit from Elvis, on the theory that if one duck could wear jewelry, so could this one.
It has, unofficially, the highest rate of being bought as a pair with Elvis of anything in the catalog, a statistic nobody set out to create and nobody has been able to fully explain.
Customer Reviews
The heart glasses make this one, honestly. Sits on my nightstand and it's the first thing I see every morning, no regrets.
Popped back into shape with a little warm water, no lasting damage. Still adorable.
They looked so good as a pair in the listing photos that I ended up getting both. No regrets, they live on the same shelf now.
Handle with some care, doesn't seem like it'd survive a real drop. Looks great as a display piece though.
This was an instant hit, she named it before she'd even finished unwrapping it.
Cute design, just a bit more compact than I expected from the photos. Would've liked a size reference in the listing.
