The Full Story
The Holiday Dash Duck started out, honestly, as an off-season overstock problem. A supplier had a run of blue duck blanks left over from a canceled order and offered them to Bushface at a steep discount. Someone in purchasing said yes before checking with design, which is how the company ended up needing to figure out what a blue duck was supposed to be, fast, in time for the holiday catalog.
The knit hat and sunglasses combination came out of a genuinely rushed brainstorm, three people, one whiteboard, forty-five minutes, the day before the design needed to go to the factory. The gold chain was added at the very last second because someone thought the duck "needed one more thing" and nobody had time to argue.
It was originally pitched as a dashboard ornament for holiday road trips, hence the name, though the packaging never actually mentions "holiday" anywhere on it, a naming inconsistency that has been flagged internally at least four times and fixed exactly zero.
