The Full Story

The Sea Turtle came out of a genuine, if short-lived, effort to expand into "ocean conservation crossover merchandise" after a 2019 corporate retreat that involved considerably more snorkeling than planned. Someone came back from the tide pools near HQ insisting the company needed "more animals wearing other animals," and nobody in the room disagreed loudly enough to stop it.

The design went through a brief identity crisis. Early prototypes leaned harder into "turtle" than "duck," to the point where one focus group participant reportedly asked, sincerely, "where's the duck part." The current version splits the difference: unmistakably a duck up front, unmistakably a turtle everywhere else, an arrangement zoologists have declined to comment on.

A small portion of proceeds was, for about eighteen months, earmarked for an actual sea turtle rescue organization, a detail that got lost somewhere during the Signal rebrand and which someone in accounting really should look into.

Customer Reviews

Priya M.★★★★★ A genuinely weird little guy

I did not know I needed a duck wearing a turtle shell until I owned one. Now I don't know how I lived without it. Sits on my desk judging my houseplants.

Owen T.★★★★☆ Great colors, shell paint a bit uneven

The green-to-brown gradient is really nicely done, though the shell pattern on mine is slightly asymmetrical. Not a big deal, still cute.

Bethan K.★★★★★ Bought for my marine-biology-obsessed kid

She has named him Sheldon and corrects anyone who calls him a "turtle duck" instead of a "duck turtle." The distinction matters to her a great deal.

Regis F.★★★☆☆ Cute but tips over in the bath

The shell makes it a little top-heavy so it rolls onto its side in moving water. Looks funny, just not sure it was intentional.

Wanda S.★★★★★ Perfect gift for a beach house

Sits on the windowsill next to actual seashells and somehow fits right in. Several guests have asked where it's from.

Desmond A.★★☆☆☆ Smaller than I expected

Cute design, just didn't realize the scale from the photos. Would've bought two if I'd known how small it actually is.
