The Stormtrooper
A glossy white rubber duck in full trooper-style armor and helmet, a real DITW Designs bath toy sold directly on Amazon.
The Full Story
The Stormtrooper started as an internal joke about a delivery mix-up. In 2015, a batch of white, unpainted duck blanks arrived from the factory with a shipping label that had, somewhere along the way, gotten a sticker for an entirely different novelty line slapped on top of it. Someone in the warehouse, presumably bored, painted a black visor stripe across one and left it on a coworker's desk. It got a bigger laugh than anything product development had shipped that quarter.
Getting the helmet detailing right took longer than expected. The visor line has to sit at exactly the right angle or the whole thing reads as "motorcycle helmet" instead of the sleeker armored look everyone was going for. Design went through nine rounds before landing on the current version, which the team refers to internally, a little defensively, as "legally distinct enough."
Unlike most of the lineup, this one shipped with almost no marketing copy at all for its first year. It sold anyway, entirely on word of mouth from people who apparently just wanted a duck that looked ready for inspection.
Customer Reviews
He lines this up with his other sci-fi toys and it fits right in. Genuinely impressive detail for a rubber duck.
The glossy white paint looks fantastic but makes it a bit slick to hold with wet hands in the bath. Worth it for the look though.
Bought one, now I own three of a similar style. This one has the best helmet detail of the bunch.
Not enough to return over, just noting it for anyone particular about symmetry.
Paid less for this than for "official" versions of similar toys and honestly like the sculpt better.
Was hoping for a removable helmet to reveal a duck face underneath. It's molded as one piece. Still a nice duck, just not what I pictured.
